San Francisco Giants Roster Report 2009-09-07

San Francisco Giants Roster Report 2009-09-07--CF Aaron Rowand hit into a triple play -- third to second to first -- in the sixth inning. He hit a one-hopper to 3B Casey McGehee, who threw to second to get the triple play rolling. The last time a Giant hit into a triple play was when 1B J.T. Snow did it on Aug. 5, 1998, against the Mets in New York.

--3B Pablo Sandoval entered the game 1-for-19 but reached base four times and drove in the Giants' only run on a first-inning single. He also dove to his left in the 10th inning -- with the bases loaded -- to rob C Jason Kendall of what would have been a game-ending single.

--RHP Brad Penny will make his second start as a Giant Monday, his first in San Francisco. The Giants are playing the Padres, and Penny is hoping for a repeat performance. In his first start since being signed after the Red Sox released him last week, he threw eight scoreless innings in Philly and got a win. He was 7-8 with a 5.61 ERA with Boston, which released him.

MEDICAL WATCH:

2B Freddy Sanchez (strained left elbow) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to Aug. 18. He began a rehab assignment with Class AAA Fresno on Sept. 3, and he may be activated as soon as Sept. 7.

LHP Randy Johnson (strained left shoulder) went on the 15-day disabled list July 6, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on July 28. He has a rotator cuff tear, but he might be able to return in September. If he does, it will be as a reliever.

RHP Kelvin Pichardo (strained right shoulder) was recalled from the minors and placed on the 60-day disabled list June 29. He began a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona League on Aug. 12.

2B Emmanuel Burriss (broken left foot) was recalled from the minors and placed on the 60-day disabled list Sept. 1.

RHP Henry Sosa (torn muscle in right shoulder) was recalled from the minors and placed on the 60-day disabled list Aug. 5.

LHP Noah Lowry (left forearm surgery in March 2008, left elbow surgery in September 2008) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on May 24. He had surgery May 19 to remove a rib, and he is likely out for the season.
